Ferroalloys
Ferroalloys are various iron alloys with high ratios of one or more other elements such as manganese (Mn), aluminum (Al) or silicon (Si).
The main ferroalloys are ferromanganese, ferrochromium, ferromolybdenum, ferro-titanium, ferrovanadium, ferrosilicon, ferroboron and phosphorus.
These materials cannot be used directly to produce a product because they are brittle and unsuitable, but these elements are useful resources for alloy steels and when combined with them, they give them special properties.
Ferroalloys usually have a lower melting point than pure elements and can be easily combined with molten steel.
1- The melting point of the elements in pure state is more than the alloy state, and therefore creating the desired temperature for melting, in addition to creating higher production costs, also leads to other technical and production problems. It is pure.
2- Ferroalloys are added to liquid steel to achieve a specific chemical composition and provide the properties required to prepare specific products. The role of these elements can include deoxygenation or creating the desired structure and achieving the desired physical and chemical properties for certain applications of steel and cast iron.
Major application of Ferroalloys
In the industries of iron and steel production, casting and electrode making. Therefore, ferroalloys play a unique role in the production of steel and cast iron, and therefore the development of steel and cast-iron production capacity in the country is associated with increased consumption of ferroalloys. Accordingly, the production of ferroalloys is quantitatively and qualitatively dependent on the production of steel, and the higher the production of steel, the greater the need for ferroalloys.
Some ferroalloys play the role of germination of certain phases, such as spherical graphite, or the optimization and refinement of microstructures in cast iron alloys, and these ferroalloys are called inoculum or germination materials.
Since steel production plays an important role in economic development, the production of ferroalloys is very important for the national economy.
Saba Zob Sepahan Company has now been able to meet part of the needs of the country’s steel industry by representing several reputable manufacturers in the field of ferroalloys.
